Via Variety, a statement has revealed that the bad boy scientist with the ‘stache will be making his way into the third Sonic the Hedgehog film.

As a long term Jim Carrey enjoyer, this is reasonably unheard of – the dude is well known for avoiding sequels to begin with, with his long history only having the odd sporadic follow up; but a trilogy? Good lord.
It all ties in beautifully to the ending of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where the post-credits revealed that the Eggman’s body was not discovered in the wreckage of the Death Egg Robot – before being immediately overshadowed (heh) by the unveiling of Shadow the Hedgehog. Many felt it was a fine thread to leave in the series, but hope of seeing the madcap maniac was pretty low considering the track record.
This leads in beautifully to another bit of Sonic 3 media that has made it’s way online today, by way of a film logo teaser that is now live across social media channels – showcasing that the identify of the film is very Sonic Adventure 2 coded:

Oh boy. The text, the logo – all of it speaks to me. Some people even say they can hear the title track from Sonic Adventure 2 in the score – Live and Learn by Crush 40. I’ll openly say I am not hearing it, but maybe it will become clear when the film actually drops.
But others are also speaking with their ears, at first saying that the laugh heard in the final moments of the logo reveal might be a clue to Shadow’s voice actor, rumoured to be Hayden Christensen in the last few weeks, but I am hoping for something more concrete before celebrating such a fact.
But they are wrong, because it’s actually a recycled giggle from the Eggman – See below.

So the final card being played close to the chest of the Sonic 3 production team is the identity of the black-and-red-quilled antagonist, but I am sure it is only a matter of time before we learn exactly who will be lending their pipes to the role; particularly given that the film is releasing in December of this year.
What a time to be alive. Sonic the Hedgehog is hitting a film trilogy alongside Jim Carrey doing a second sequel. And Anakin Skywalker might be the angst master?
Pinch me, I must be dreaming.
