The final mysterious cat is finally out of the bag when it comes to the stars of the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie – with a report from The Hollywood Reporter unveiling that the John Wick star and half of beloved duo Bill & Ted will lend his unique pipes to the dark doppelganger: Keanu Reeves will voice Shadow the Hedgehog.

Reeves has been padding out an impressive resume for films of late – spearheading the action packed John Wick: Chapter 4 and even returning to The Matrix franchise for The Matrix: Resurrections. It’s crazy how many people immediately started fan casting him as Shadow once the credits rolled on the second Sonic movie, so this outcome is definitely being celebrated.
This puts the current hype train for Sonic 3 into a new gear, considering that people were already buzzing for all the reveals we have seen so far – such as Sonic Adventure 2 influences for the film and the lofty announcement that not only is Eggman returning, but he may be a bit of a unit as well.
Director Jeff Fowler is behind all three instalments, so hopes are high that the same consistent level of “good family fun” quality will persist for a big finish for the trilogy – if the intention is for a trilogy, of course.
Now the third film is still a little way off, so if you want to celebrate the big casting news you can always cast your eye towards the Knuckles TV show that is soon debuting on Paramount+.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to release 20 December 2024 – the Knuckles TV series is due 26 April 2024.
