Sonic Film Director Reveals The Knuckles TV Series Is Under Way

Something to tide us over while waiting for Sonic 3

Straight from the bloke who parks his delightful derrière in the director’s chair, Jeff Fowler has dropped a tasty snippet to indicate that the Knuckles the Echidna TV show is absolutely on and cracking:

For long term fans of the red gem enthusiast, it’s easy to notice that beside the clapping board is a notable hat – in fact, it’s absolutely the iconic duster that he wore in the anime Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie. So you could say it’s a… Knuckle’s Duster.

…Ahem.

Besides this neat hat tidbit and production confirmation, there’s also a range of details about the series to give us a clearer idea of what to expect in regards to the shows existence within the Sonic film universe:

  • The series chronologically takes place between the second and third Sonic films
  • The synopsis claims that Knuckles “agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.”
  • Jeff Fowler, who directed both “Sonic the Hedgehog” films, will direct the pilot episode and serve as executive producer
  • Idris Elba is of course returning to voice
  • Brandon Trost is returning to serve as cinematographer for the series, after doing a killer job with the second film

It’s interesting to see that the synopsis isn’t a grand Knuckles prequel – but rather a buddy adventure between him and the goofy police sidekick Wade. Given it’s purpose as bridging tool between the sequel and the upcoming third movie, it may well serve as a way to plant some narrative seeds in anticipation. Is Robotnik back, and now wearing a fat suit? Is Amy Rose coming to Green Hills? Does some kind of Metal Sonic exist!?

All this and more may or may not be revealed when the series hits the Paramount+ streaming service.
