Ubisoft has reaffirmed that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in active development despite cancelling other projects.
Providing a statement to Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips, an Ubisoft spokesperson stated that “Beyond Good and Evil 2’s development is under way and the team is hard at work to deliver on its ambitious promise.”
Announced all the way back in 2008, the sequel to the 2003 action-adventure game has been almost entirely dormant, outside of a cinematic trailer that was shown off during E3 2017. While the trailer was impressive and fans were given renewed hope at the time, that was over five years ago.
With the recent Ubisoft financial report showing lower-than-expected results, leading to the cancellation of three unannounced projects, it seemed likely that the long-overdue sequel might be on the chopping block. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case. The report says that Ubisoft will shift its focus towards “mega-brands and long-lasting titles,” leaving us to wonder if Beyond Good and Evil fits that mould.
