Skull & Bones Has Been Delayed Yet Again; Three Other Unannounced Ubisoft Titles Cancelled

This will never set sail

Ubisoft has quietly delayed their pirate action game Skull & Bones once again while cancelling three unannounced titles.

The announcement was made in Ubisoft’s most recent financial report, wherein the game’s extended development time was discussed positively, with the various delays having “paid off,” with playtesters attesting to “impressive improvements to its quality.”

To that end, the statement continues on to say “We have decided to postpone its release in order to have more time to showcase a much more polished and balanced experience and to build awareness. Skull and Bones will now be released early 2023-24.” The 2023-2024 bracket refers to the company’s fiscal year, whcih spans from April to March, meaning that the game will no longer launch on March 9, 2023.

The other takeaway from this financial report is that Ubisoft has cancelled three in-development titles that hadn’t yet been announced. The three games have been dropped in order to “Ensure all our energy is focused on building our brands and live services into some of the most powerful within the industry.”

It would seem that the unannounced titles didn’t fit within Ubisoft’s framework going forward, with the company instead focusing on what they refer to as “mega-brands” within the report.

Do you have any excitement left for Skull & Bones? What do you think of Ubisoft’s current focus on long-running brands? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
