Blizzard took to the stage at Gamescom 2024 to spruke all things Warcraft, Diablo and Overwatch – with one fun little factoid being that we are on the cusp of Warcraft’s 30th anniversary. Hot damn.
So, in typical Blizzard fashion – one of the best ways to celebrate this fun little universe milestone is to smash down the franchise walls and start peppering some well known looks into other titles, and in this case you can expect some new World of Warcraft collaboration items for Overwatch 2.
As a taster, they even took to social media to give players a look at the upcoming Sylvanas Windrunner skin for Widowmaker – with some pretty bang-on concept art:
Prepare to serve the Horde or fight alongside the Alliance as we celebrate 20 years of World of Warcraft with the Overwatch x @Warcraft collaboration, coming later in Season 12

While it looks amazing, I do wonder if they at least initially considered squeezing Hanzo into that amazing outfit. I mean, he does use a bow after all.
This also explains the little teaser of the Lich King’s blade at the end of the Season 12 trailer – meaning that someone else is clearly joining the costume party.
Personally I am a huge fan of the cross-universe tie ins, if only for how they reflect a fun unity of Blizzard’s properties all coming from the same place. I wore my StarCraft 2 ‘Raynhardt’ skin for years, it took a Transformers collaboration to finally pry that thing out of my fingers – so I am hoping that Lich King outfit is for someone other than Reinhardt.
You can’t make me choose like this Blizzard, I refuse.
Do you feel hella old realising that the Warcraft franchise is old enough to start considering a midlife crisis? What other iconic character skins from Warcraft should they bring into the game? Tell us all about it in the comments or on social media.
