Overwatch 2 is wrapping up the saga of Super Mega Ultrawatch – and jumping into something a little more sunburnt and sandy.
Season 12 is named New Frontiers, bringing us some Egyptian themed goodies and the Martian mate-mender Juno!

Tested in a prior season, we also see the proper inclusion of the game mode “Clash” – a tug of war style mode that has teams fighting over a sequence of linear control points. This also means the return of both the Hanaoka and Anubis tilesets, so veterans of the original Overwatch will find their surroundings familiar.
And revealed from the shifting sands we see that the newest Mythic skin offering is for the edgy tank assassin Reaper. Dressing up like the Egyptian god of the dead, ol’ mate looks ready to kick tut. This is rounded out with some other neato skins that are very on-theme – as well as some oddities, like a ‘Wizard of Oz’ inspired skin for Ashe.
While not spotlighted in the trailer, the events of Season 11 introduced players to the new standard of also having a Mythic Weapon Skin become available as part of its content – and Season 12 is no different, with eagle eyed players noticing the following text as part of the marketing release:
So if you enjoy playing Sniper Grandma, you are in for a treat.
The last little taste of what to come sneaks in at the very end of the trailer, with a familiar score of World of Warcraft music punctuating the reveal of an infamous sword. The blade of the Lich King, Frostmourne, is slammed into the ground by an unknown wielder – so clearly someone is intending to cosplay as Arthas Menethil for Halloween. Does this mean the next collaboration is simply a Blizzard one? Is Arthas the only iconic character coming over? Time will tell.
Journey into Season 12: New Frontiers when it launches August 21.
