Blizzard Painted Up A Whole Dang Cathedral For Its Diablo IV Live Action Trailer

Also lit a lot of candles

Live action trailers are nothing new. They are usually a fun little jaunt into a games’ marketing with some CGI flair alongside a human actor – such as the neat Atomic Heart one with Jensen Ackles.

But the Diablo IV one has hit the internet today – and it does not have a human in it’s starring role. In fact, no humans are present at all; instead the primary character of this little gothic slice of what to expect is a whole-ass, real-life cathedral.

Sporting an impressive 160-foot mural made up of over 20 unique paintings covering the vintage ceiling and dome – calling it a very unique project is somewhat of an understatement, but that is the direct quote from world-famous Baroque artist Adam Miller. Miller and his team painted the myriad of Diablo scenes on canvas before installing them within the deconsecrated French cathedral. (Note: Deconsecrated means it’s no longer considered a sacred site for religious use, and yes, that is indeed a word I only just learned today.)

If you feel the voice over in the video sounds familiar, that is likely because you are hearing the voice of Game of Thrones’ Charles Dance beseeching us to stand up to hatred – because she will not relent.

As far as marketing goes, this is absolutely something I have not seen before. Blizzard really is pouring themselves into the success of Diablo IV – and with the beta periods looming, they clearly want as many eyes on it as possible.

To further amplify both this incredible set of artworks and the beta, Blizzard has also opened a sweepstakes for players to have themselves added to the works as as a Diablo hero battling Lilith’s evil – should they choose to opt in.

What do you think of this amazing trailer? Did you also learn the word ‘deconsecrated’ today? Let us know in the comments or on social media.

Those who have pre-purchased Diablo IV will receive Early Access to the Open Beta from March 18-20. On the following weekend, the Open Beta will be available to everyone from March 25-27.
