Borderlands 4 Introduces Amon The Forgeknight With An Axe-cellent Gameplay Overview Trailer

Imagine a blacksmith who uses his body as his forge

We are yet closer to Borderlands 4, and you best believe that we are getting another up close and personal look at the next upcoming vault hunter.

Todays subject is Amon the Forgeknight, a hulking brute who grew up within a monster-worshipping death cult. Turns out the monsters didn’t really vibe with being worshipped, and as the sole survivor of this people he has decided to switch gears from worshipping to just outright murdering monsters. Makes sense.

As a Forgeknight, Amon has some pretty creative abilities thanks to the ingenious use of cybernetic drones that he stores in both his arm and his spine – including:

  • Manifesting a shield to absorb enemy gunfire
  • Create frost and fire axes to throw at baddies, freezing and shattering them
  • Punch people with a molten fist, or even slam them with a big molten hammer. Molten.

He is a warrior poet with the skillset to stand right in the face of a badass without flinching. Freezing people seems super cool, as it is easily one of the most under-utilised elemental effects in Borderlands games. See what I did there?

Check out his gameplay overview here:

Definitely seems that Amon is stepping into the role of front-liner within the game’s archetypes. Borderlands games don’t lean super heavily into the idea of a ‘Tank’ role, but they often tickle the concept. Amon seems happy to dance to this tune, especially considering his overview saw him stepping up to a huge tentacle beastie with little more than a calm “Leave it to me.”

At around 1min 20sec in the video I definitely saw the dude sling out two giant frost whips, doing a beautiful twirl and unleashing a frozen shockwave. It was every bit as graceful as a dancer, only with the end result being a horde of ravening lunatics getting impaled on frosty spears. I need to see more.

If you want to get down and dirty with every detail of what Amon is capable of, check out the Borderlands website for their full breakdown:

Much like the Rafa the Exo-Soldier gameplay overview, there is no character short online just yet – but I am hoping we will see it in a short while. Amon has had a few small parts in other shorts and I can’t help but feel he’ll be a fun dude once we get to know him.

What do you think of Amon’s resourceful weapon usage? Are you about frost whips, or flame hammers? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
