Tony Todd, who leant his incredible pipes to the symbiote villain Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and acted as the chilling serial killer in the Candyman horror franchise, died in Los Angeles on Wednesday night aged 69.
Tony Todd’s representative Jeffrey Goldberg informed celebrity news site TMZ of the news, with no cause of death disclosed. All that was noted was that Tony died of natural causes at his home in Marina Del Rey.

Todd was born in December of 1954, and studied theatre at the Eugene O’Neil National Actors Theatre Institute. One of his very first major picture roles was in the 1986 war film Platoon alongside actors like Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe and a very young Johnny Depp. The film won Best Picture at the Academy Awards and started his career trajectory – spanning both film and television, boasting incredible horror credits in both the Candyman franchise as well as The Crow and Final Destination.
It is a shocking bit of news, as the longtime actor was seemingly settling in for some impressive voice acting credits – rumoured to possibly step into the goo shoes of Venom for future Spidey stories.
Tony Todd was one of the best to ever do it, he brought nuance and passion in voicing Venom.

As a Transformers fan, I will always remember his iconic voice in Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, where he provided the voice for aforementioned big bad, The Fallen. He also did a stellar job on TV’s Transformers Prime as Skyquake.
It was recently reported that Todd did voiceover work for the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, so fans can look forward to at least one more incredible performance.
A true legend, Tony Todd will absolutely find himself fondly remembered by all who enjoyed his many incredible roles.
