Coleco Chameleon Retro Gaming Console Kickstarter

This would be really neat if the console came to fruition by successful crowdfunding.

Coleco’s Chameleon console, which was originally known as the Retro VGS, is a system which promises to deliver the authentic retro experience. Delivering games that will look and feel like games released decades ago. Here’s my favourite part though, they won’t release DLC’s that will burn holes in your wallet. Unlike most modern consoles, these aren’t going to be computers in a console body. Retro Video Games Systems, the developer of the console, plan to port old SNES titles to the system as well as release new indie games for the platform, all in cartridge form, of course.

This upcoming crowdfunding project won’t be the first time this console has seen the light of crowdfunding. Back when the console was names Retro VGS, the developers lead a kickstarter campaign to try and raise an ambitious amount of $1,950,000, however they only succeeded in obtaining $80,000 (better than nothing, right?). Since then, the developer of the system signed a contract with the old gaming company, Coleco, and the system is now known as the Coleco Chameleon. For the uninformed, Coleco used to make handhelds and mini-arcades for titles like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong back in the 80’s.

According to Retro VGSFacebook page, you can get a Chameleon if you pledge at least $135. It’ll come with a controller and some cables, including HDMI and A/V jacks, since it works with a wide range of displays. The best thing about it, though, is that you won’t need to download a Day One patch and can start playing as soon as you get it… but let’s not get hasty, that is assuming it makes it past the crowdfunding stage and actually meets its target.
