Our favourite internet troll is at it again, with the legendary Ed Boon posting a short and sweet video to his Twitter feed today.
The tease involves a ticking clock, and an open query to all – “Does anyone know what time it is?”

Reading between the lines, you notice that the clock happily ticks by most of the face numbers, before having a short, dramatic hiccup when approaching 12. The reflections in the clock show chaos, before the hand violently lurches forward – bypassing 12 entirely – and landing on 1.
Given that the clock starts at the number 9, it actually lends a lot to the theory that Mortal Kombat 12 is using it’s suggesting time travel shenanigans to reset the timeline once more. Each number the clocks’ hand lands on (9, 10 and 11) all represent modern Mortal Kombat titles, in what many refer to as the ‘modern’ series. The way it seems to refuse 12, and instead jumps to 1 may well suggest that we are entering a new timeline, with Liu Kang’s actions as keeper of Kronika’s Hourglass leading to a fresh start for the Mortal Kombat mythos. Maybe this Tournament will be different?
It’s a lot of speculation for a 17 second Twitter clip, but this is what Ed Boon has done to us fans. And we love it.
