Darktide Developers Issue Open Letter Admitting They Fell Short Of Expectations

Xbox launch to be delayed so they can improve the PC version

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide released on PC in December of 2022, heralding a brutal and oppressive look at the 40th Millenium. In my review, I even gave it an 8 and mentioned that it came with ‘a fat promise of more great things to come’.

The only issue is that those promises haven’t really been delivered upon. In a statement released earlier today, Fatshark stated that they intended to “create a highly engaging and stable game with a level of depth that keeps you playing for weeks, not hours”, but had clearly fallen “short of meeting those expectations”:

What is strikingly surprising is the note that they are openly delaying the Xbox Series X|S release alongside planned “seasonal content” for the PC version, in the hopes of delivering “a complete crafting system” and “a more rewarding progression loop”, both items that have been a critically sore spot for the community.

While it is promising to see such things laid out in clear view, really the proof will come from the delivering of said promises. A number of the items addressed had already been commented on, with many voicing their disappointment via the Steam Review page for Darktide, which has slowly slid into a “Mostly Negative” rating.
