What Is A Deviljho, and How Does It Affect Your Monster Hunter World Experience?

Why you should be both excited (and fearful) of this angry pickle.

With Monster Hunter World right around the corner, it’s worth taking the time to peer at the Free DLC that has been announced.

Coming sometime ‘In the spring’ (Japanese spring? I am awaiting a date confirmation) the developers have offered a dire warning – Deviljho will be entering the world of Monster Hunter World.

But what is a Deviljho?

Debuting in Monster Hunter 3, ‘Jho is a very large, bipedal Brute Wyvern that kind of resembles a cross between a T-Rex and a Pickle/Gherkin. Covered with short, jagged spines that run along the length of it’s back, and the underside of it’s tail – from side on you’d think it’s silhouette looks like a bit like it is part chainsaw. Couple these characteristics with it’s snubby, toothy snout, you’d almost question if he was perhaps a thorny herbivore.

But he isn’t. ‘Jho is not only meat hungry, he is also a little cannibalistic. He isn’t averted to eating his own severed tail in order to restore health why working to maim a wannabe hunter. Self cannibalism, retro-cannibalism? I am sure there is a scientific word for it – however you slice it, he is a bad mother hubbard.

Deviljho’s biggest claim to fame however, if his habit of turning up entirely unannounced while you are busy dealing with something else, turning a fairly routine material run into something a great deal more involved. He also likes to enrage as his health dwindles, so enjoy that also.

All this adds up to an exciting start to the post-release content that is promised by Capcom, and honestly ol’ mate ‘Jho seems to be a welcome addition. The game just wouldn’t feel complete without the chaos he entails – and beyond his release there is a plethora of incredible mega-fauna spanning a rich history of Monster Hunter games, just waiting to be seen in the amazing full-HD experience that is Monster Hunter World.

I will leave you with this cute artist impression of Deviljho, before your thoughts of him inevitably turn dark and murderous.

Monster Hunter World will release worldwide on January 26th, for PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC version coming later this year.
