This week saw the big one, the stacked, 60-minute Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. During the showcase we not only got a detailed look at the Switch 2 console and some of its launch-and-beyond game library, but a reveal of some exciting new accessories releasing alongside the machine.
Following the presentation, Nintendo also let drop some further information on these and a few more bits you’ll be able to pick up at launch, so let’s take a look at what’ll be available when you go to pick up your shiny new Nintendo Switch 2:
You can find pre-orders for most of this stuff here!
Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller –$119.95
With a new Switch comes a new Pro Controller, and this one cleverly keeps the already-excellent design of the Pro Controller intact with just a few smart refinements. These include that fancy new C button for use with GameChat, extra “GL” and “GR” buttons at the back that can be mapped to any other button, a 3.5mm audio jack (YES!) and the new “HD Rumble 2.”
Joy-Con 2 controllers and straps — $139.95 Pair / $79.95 Each / $19.95 Straps
The Joy-Con controllers are back and better than ever! Now featuring magnetic attachment to the Switch 2 console, larger thumbsticks, larger SL and SR buttons, HD Rumble 2, the new C button and the ability to each double as a mouse-like input, these are a huge upgrade over the existing Joy-Con controllers and come in very svelte colourway that hides the classic red and blue underneath a striking black shell.
Interesting, it looks like the straps attach via those very same red and blue parts around the connectors, so replacement straps also come with the whole sleeve.
Wireless GameCube Controller
GameCube games are coming to Nintendo Switch 2! And that means that, once again, we’ll be able to buy brand-spankin’ new versions of the classic controller. Like previous Nintendo Switch Online-ready controllers, this one will only be sold through Nintendo’s official online store and only to those with the paid membership. This one is fully wireless and also includes the new C button.
Australian pricing TBC.
Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip – $44.95
Pretty self-explanatory, this, and not all that different from the existing Nintendo Switch Joy-Con charging grip, with the exception that this one uses those new magnetic connections and has the remappable GL/GR buttons from the Switch 2 Pro Controller.
Joy-Con 2 Wheels
What would a new Switch console launching alongside a new Mario Kart game be without new plastic wheel attachments for the new Joy-Cons? Once again, these don’t look all that different from before aside from a snazzy new colourway and the magnetic attachment.
Australian pricing TBC.
Nintendo Switch 2 Camera – $69.95
One of the newer and more novel add-ons for the Switch 2, the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera unlocks a host of new possibilities including live video feed for the new GameChat system as well as use in actual games like Super Mario Party Jamboree: Switch 2 Edition. It plugs in via USB-C, which can be done with the Switch 2’s handy new top USB-C port, includes a privacy shutter, and sports a wide-angle lens.
Nintendo Switch 2 Dock and AC Adapter
Rejoice, for it’s once again going to be possible to purchase a Switch dock separately! No idea why they stopped doing that for the original Switch (at least locally, not sure about other parts of the world), when it’s such a convenience to have a second dock or at least be able to replace one if something untoward should happen.
The new AC Adapter is also quite cute, and handily this time around the USB-C cable is removable!
Australian pricing for the Dock Set and AC Adapter TBC.
Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector
Yeah, this is exactly what you’d expect.
Australian pricing TBC.
Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case
This is a bit of a new one, though. Previously, Switch owners relied on third-party manufacturers for a carrying case that support the console and the dock. Now, there’s an official solution. This bad boy will fit the Nintendo Switch 2 system, Nintendo Switch 2 dock, Joy-Con 2 controllers, a Pro Controller, “various cables,” and up to six game cards in its very handsome, black cube.
Australian pricing TBC.
We’ll endeavour to update with local pricing when we can, but for now you can find more information right here.
