Xbox Games Studios and developer Playground Games have announced that Fable has been delayed and will now aim for release in 2026.
During the most recent episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, Craig Duncan, the head of Xbox Game Studios, announced that the upcoming Fable game will spend some extra time in the oven and is now expected to launch in 2026. This was followed by an X post from Playground Games that states that “in order to make the best game possible for our players, we’re going to take a little more time and launch in 2026.”

While the news might be a bummer for those excited for the game, the podcast episode did have an upside for Fable. Less of a trailer and more of a brief look at the game in its current state, Duncan spoke about his recent visit to Playground Games as gameplay played, showing the player character making their way through various environments and combating a handful of monsters. Oh, and they also show the player kick the shit out of a chicken. It’s far from a deep dive, but what we do see is pretty promising.
