Final Fantasy VIII Remaster Is Coming Out In Just Two Weeks

Want to know the quickest way to this particular writer’s heart? Just use the words Final Fantasy VIII. It’s the game that not only introduced me to the wonderful RPG/JRPG genre but to a world and characters that helped shape my childhood years and have stuck with me ever since. There are a lot of games that I love and that I would consider some of the best of all time, but FFVIII holds a place in my heart as probably my all-time favourite game.

So when news broke that Final Fantasy VIII was coming to modern platforms as a tidied-up HD remaster you can bet that my heart skipped a beat. I didn’t think I’d feel that same feeling about the game again until it was out, either, but here we are with a surprise release date announcement of September 3rd, 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.

That’s two weeks from now.

Holy shit am I pumped right now, dear readers. Fuck Gamescom, fuck whatever pretty great game I’m playing for review right now that I can’t tell you about, fuck it all. Two. Weeks.

As of writing the game is available for digital preorder in the US on the Xbox and PlayStation stores as well as Steam. Nothing on the Australian front yet but I’d expect those to go live today as well.

Kieron started gaming on the SEGA Master System, with Sonic the Hedgehog, Alex Kidd and Wonder Boy. The 20-odd years of his life since have not seen his love for platformers falter even slightly. A separate love affair, this time with JRPGs, developed soon after being introduced to Final Fantasy VIII (ie, the best in the series). Further romantic subplots soon blossomed with quirky Japanese games, the occasional flashy AAA action adventure, and an unhealthy number of indie gems. To say that Kieron lies at the center of a tangled, labyrinthine web of sexy video game love would be an understatement.
