Gorgeous Indie Saltsea Chronicles Sets Sail For October 12 Release

Pirates of the Saltsea: At October’s 12th

Indie developer Die Gute Fabrik has today announced its story-book-inspired new game Saltsea Chronicles will launch on PS5, Switch, and PC next week on October 12. The news comes amid PlayStation’s Indie Day, a celebration of cool independent games that the Copenhagen developer has used to springboard the release announcement for Saltsea Chronicles.

Following the award-winning success of titles like Mutazione and Sportsfriends, Saltsea Chronicles is a heavily stylised, branching narrative game that sets players loose in Saltsea, a world recovering from a great flood. You’ll captain your own ship and choose from a bunch of cool locations and islands, unlocking new stories and parts of the world as you go. The whole thing is brought together by a striking aesthetic and vibe, landing somewhere between cozy and chill. Die Gute Fabrik has said that the game will likely run players around ten hours but given the exploratory nature of the title, you’ll need to play multiple times to ensure you see all that Saltsea has to offer.

To celebrate the release date, the team has dropped a gorgeous new trailer that you can check out below.

As you can see the game has quite a style to it. There’s talk of an in-universe card game, dramatic crew mate interactions, and some kind of strange music hybrid soundtrack to tie it all together. We think it looks sick and is exactly the kind of experience you might need as the overwhelming wave of AAA releases continues to drown us all like so many islands lost to the tide.

Anyway, do you think Saltsea Chronicles looks like a trip worth taking? Be sure to let us know in the comments below and on social media.
