Hands-On Previews Of RoboCop: Rogue City Reveal It Is Slavishly Accurate

Walk slow and carry a big gun

It’s a big morning for RoboCop: Rogue City, with a ton of hands-on preview videos going live to reveal exactly what the crew at Teyon are cooking up for Mr. Robert Cop.

Some surprising details that were immediately apparent include the reveal that the game is not going to solely be a run and gun shooter, rather that it incorporates a hefty amount of additional roleplaying elements to truly capture a faithful RoboCop experience. You will conduct investigations, navigate dialogue trees and even engage in side objectives to flesh out a narrative that takes place between the second RoboCop film and it’s dreadful third entry.

All while walking at a slow, deliberate pace – such is the RoboCop way.

Developers are even touting an impressive 20-30 hour length of the campaign – though I personally am unsure how much of that may be spent walking at clompy-Murphy speed. Being RoboCop, you can’t really expect the dude to break into a full-blown marathon-like sprint, but for many it was absolutely a note worth mentioning during their preview.

Teyon previously delivered a similar experience with Terminator: Resistance – again a slavishly accurate title that bowed deeply to the source material, delighting fans but possibly alienating less dedicated individuals. Being unable to defeat certain terminator models early on could feel frustrating, but for lore-dorks like myself it made perfect sense. This is similar in RoboCop: Rogue City, where some mechanics are clearly set in stone to capture the look and feel of being a dystopian cyborg cop.

It personally tickles me greatly, and I am hungry to step into the metal clompers of Alex Murphy. The depths of gameplay on offer, away from simply blowing away punks has me intrigued – and hopeful that the narrative can capture some of the magic that made the films so neat.

Are you excited for RoboCop: Rogue City? Do you agree that the third film was hot garbage? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
