Here Is Every Game Announcement From The PlayStation 5 Event

All the reveals in one place

Sony kicked the doors down and came out guns blazing during this yesterday’s PS5 reveal event, showing off a total of 28 games, some new IPs, some exclusive, some indie, some first-party and some third-party. It was a cavalcade of games that showed Sony’s commitment to ensuring the PS5 is the place to play.

If you missed all the announcements not to worry, below you’ll find a summary of every game announcement, AAA or indie, that was on display. Just so we don’t give you half-arsed definitions of the games that were shown off, the descriptions have been lifted from the corresponding YouTube trailer or the PlayStation website. But we’ll give you our thoughts on every announcement just so it’s not pure marketing spin.

Grand Theft Auto V

What is it: With over 130 million copies sold, the record-breaking and critically acclaimed open world experience, Grand Theft Auto V is coming to PlayStation 5 in the second half of 2021 featuring a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the console’s powerful new hardware, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever.

When is it coming: Originally came out on the PS3, then the PS4. Will grace its third platform in 2021.

Our Thoughts: 130 million copies sold clearly not enough for Rockstar. Does anyone actually not own this game at this point?

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

What is it: A new Marvel’s Spider-Man adventure from Insomniac Games coming to PlayStation 5.

When is it coming: Shoot that web in 2020.

Our Thoughts: It’s not Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but it’s more tasty web-slinging action. Also, Miles Morales, what’s not to love?

Gran Turismo 7

What is it: Gran Turismo 7 builds on 22 years of experience to bring you the best features from the history of the franchise Whether you’re a competitive racer, collector, fine-tuning builder, livery designer, photographer or arcade fan – ignite your personal passion for cars with features inspired by the past, present and future of Gran Turismo.

When is it coming: Next-gen sometime.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Our Thoughts: All I’ve wanted since the PS4’s Ratchet & Clank soft reboot is a brand new game and this looks the absolute goods.

Project Athia

What is it: A thrilling story-led, action-packed adventure from SQUARE ENIX’s new studio, Luminous Productions. Project Athia is the culmination of Luminous Productions’ philosophy to create a completely new and fresh gaming experiences that fuses together the latest technologies with art. With the PlayStation 5, their vision truly comes to life, and with Project Athia you can look forward to being transported to a vast and detailed world filled with beauty and dismay.

When is it coming: Considering it was just a dirty tease, it’s likely years away.

Our Thoughts: Looks cool, sounds cool. Hopefully it delivers.

Stray

What is it: Lost, alone, and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten cybercity and find the way home.

When is it coming: Sometime in 2021, my cat Bernie will be four years old.

Our Thoughts: There are not enough games with playable cats, or robot barbers. This has both.

Returnal

What is it: Returnal combines action with roguelike gameplay into a third-person shooter where players fight to survive a hostile planet that changes with every death. Players can switch instinctively between firing modes by using a single adaptive trigger and can get right back into the action after dying. PS5’s immersive 3D audio brings the alien world to life around the player, helping players navigate the intense positional combat. Coming to PlayStation 5.

When is it coming: Next-gen sometime.

Our Thoughts: Housemarque doing what it does best, but this time from the third-person. Plus, aliens.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

What is it: Iconic PlayStation hero, Sackboy returns in an all-new 3D adventure with a deeply immersive and expressive control scheme. Players can go on this epic platforming journey solo-style, or they can team up with friends for collaborative, chaotic multiplayer fun. Sackboy A Big Adventure is coming to PlayStation 5.

When is it coming: Next-gen sometime.

Our Thoughts: Who doesn’t love a bit of Sackboy in their gaming rotation?

Destruction AllStars

Kena: Bridge of Spirits seamlessly blends action and narrative into an unforgettable experience. Travel with Kena, a young Spirit Guide on a quest to uncover the mysterious story surrounding the demise of the village.

Our Thoughts: Holy shit this looks magical, pure, beautiful and adorable all at the same time. We’re Kena as a bena.

Goodbye Volcano High

What is it: Goodbye Volcano High is a cinematic narrative adventure about the end of an era… and the beginning of a love story. Coming 2021 to PS5 & PS4.

When is it coming: See above.

Our Thoughts: Heartbreak furry high? Sure why not.

Oddworld: Soulstorm

What is it: Witness Abe’s horrifying conflict with a terrifying new machination in this fresh narrative adventure. Oddworld Soulstorm represents a big visual and cinematic leap aiming that breaks new ground for Oddworld. With intelligent new mechanics and twisted new devices which enable highly explosive deviousness. This is a dark parable that tells an epic tale of a volatile society pushed to its limits.

When is it coming: If this doesn’t release in 2021 I’m convinced there is no game at all.

Our Thoughts: It’s been on our radars for so long and the fact that it still has no release date hurts. But boy does it look good!

JETT: The Far Shore

What is it: JETT: The Far Shore invites you on an interstellar trip to carve out a future for a people haunted by oblivion in this cinematic action adventure coming Holiday 2020 on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

When is it coming: Jett set for a 2020 release.

Our Thoughts: Looks like Flower but with spaceships? Is that fair to say? The visual style is killer.

GhostWire: Tokyo

Our Thoughts: We finally got our first look at what Ghostwire: Tokyo is all about and it didn’t disappoint.

Godfall

When is it coming: 2021.

Our Thoughts: We thought it was Hyper Light Drifter 2, so based on that it looks pretty damn cool.

Hitman III

What is it: Agent 47 returns as a ruthless professional for the most important contracts of his entire career in HITMAN 3, the dramatic conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy. Available in January 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC.

When is it coming: January 2021

Our Thoughts: There isn’t much to go off, but we won’t complain about more Hitman.

Astro’s Playroom

What is it: Astro and his crew lead you on a magical introduction through PS5 in this fun platformer that comes pre-loaded on PS5. Explore four worlds, each based on PS5’s console components. Each area showcases innovative gameplay that taps into the new features of the PS5’s DualSense wireless controller. Astro’s Playroom is coming to PlayStation 5.

When is it coming: Comes pre-loaded onto every PS5, how good?

Our Thoughts: Bit of a bummer it’s not another PSVR experience but more Astro is always a good thing.

Little Devil Inside

What is it: Little Devil Inside is an action-adventure RPG with survival elements set in an atmospheric, semi-open world. The trailer reveals new scenes, monsters and glimpses of gameplay in various environments.

When is it coming: Next-gen sometime.

Our Thoughts: It’s a long time coming but this game looks better and better every time we see it.

NBA 2K21

What is it: NBA 2K21 is built from the ground up for PS5. Get ready for Next-gen graphics, load times, and power.

When is it coming: 2020.

Our Thoughts: We aren’t huge b-ball fans, but what we saw looked crisp

Bugsnax

What is it: From the minds behind Octodad: Dadliest Catch comes Bugsnax, a whimsical adventure game coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 holiday 2020.

When is it coming: 2020.

Our Thoughts: This game looks exactly the right type of bonkers. And there’s a theme song by Kero Kero Bonito! *does chef’s kiss*

Demon’s Souls

What is it: From JAPAN Studio and Bluepoint Games comes a remake of the PlayStation classic, Demon’s Souls™. Entirely rebuilt from the ground up and masterfully enhanced, this remake invites you to experience the unsettling story and ruthless combat of Demon’s Souls in unparalleled visual quality and incredible performance. Coming to PlayStation 5.

When is it coming: When the demon says so.

Deathloop

What is it: DEATHLOOP is an innovative first person shooter launching for PlayStation 5 and PC from Arkane Lyon, the award-winning studio behind the critically acclaimed Dishonored franchise. Launching Holiday 2020! The island of Blackreef. For most of its inhabitants, it’s a paradise. But for Colt, it’s an inescapable prison. Our Thoughts: For a game that felt like nothing more than ether previously, it certainly has my attention now.

Resident Evil Village

What is it: Fear surrounds you in Resident Evil Village, unleashing a new chapter of survival horror on PlayStation 5 in 2021!

When is it coming: Hitting next-gen and PC in 2021.

Our Thoughts: Werewolves, the occult, castle and a creepy village? Where do I sign up?

Pragmata

What is it: Well, if we’re being honest, we don’t know. The trailer depicts a man in a bulky spacesuit, investigating a city street with some high-tech gizmos before meeting up with a hologram little girl and being flung into space. A good helping of Death Stranding vibes, a pinch of Bioshock, garnished with an ending shot of the two characters on the moon. Sounds tasty.

When is it coming: Latest date given during the event, this one is scheduled for 2022.

Our Thoughts: Do we really have to deal Death Stranding level whack again? If so, we’re in.

Horizon Forbidden West

What is it: Horizon Forbidden West continues Aloy’s story as she moves west to a far-future America to brave a majestic, but dangerous frontier where she’ll face awe-inspiring machines and mysterious new threats. Coming to PlayStation 5.
