Industry Veteran Hideki Kamiya Is Officially Leaving Platinum Games

What will his next move be?

Development studio Platinum Games has announced that director Hideki Kamiya will be departing from the company as of October 12.

The statement shared on Platinum Games’ X (Twitter), begins by saying “We regret to announce that Hideki Kamiya will be leaving Platinum Games,” though an exact reason for the departure isn’t offered. The complimentary press release goes on to acknowledge Kamiya’s influence and thanks him for his “creative ideas, leadership, and contributions to the growth of Platinum Games.”

At risk of creating drama where there is none, Kamiya posted his own statement to his personal X (Twitter) account that added fuel to the speculation fire. Interesting wording surrounding his departure makes it seem like there was some kind of disagreement or clash in ideals that led to his exit. “I will be leaving Platinum Games on October 12, 2023. This came after a lot of consideration based on my own beliefs. and was by no means an easy decision to make.”

Again, no concrete reason has been provided, but the situation certainly has a strange air to it.

Kamiya has been with Platinum Games since its inception back in 2006. Over the years he has contributed to the Bayonetta series, Wonderful 101 and Astral Chain to name a few. Prior to his time with Platinum, Kamiya worked as the director for the original Devil May Cry, so to say that he’s been influential would be an understatement.
