PlatinumGames wants to revive their cancelled co-op, dragon-riding, action game Scalebound.
In an interview with IGN Japan, PlatinumGames’ president Atsushi Inaba said the Scalebound’s creator Hideki Kamiya still harboured desires to finish and release the game, with Kamiya then saying “I’d like to appeal to Phil Spencer directly! Let’s do it, Phil!”
Inaba continued by stating that the studio would love the opportunity to work on Scalebound again before Kamiya added that development on the game had made good progress, and that ” it seems pointless for Microsoft to just hold on to that and not do anything with it.”
Scalebound was first announced as an Xbox One exclusive at E3 2013, but was cancelled in 2017 after the game ran into development troubles. Platinum apologised for the game’s cancellation in 2019, saying they bit off more than they can chew with the project but had learned a lot.
While it’s unlikely that Phil Spencer would greenlight the game’s development again after saying in 2020 that “it’s something we’ve all moved past,” it would be interesting to see how the game would look and change if Platinum was given a second chance.
