Xbox Games Showcase + Gears of War: E-Day Direct Has Been Pencilled In For June

Xbox has announced that the annual Xbox Games Showcase will be returning with an additional Gears of War E-Day Direct on June 8 at 3am AEST.

Announced via a blog post on Xbox Wire, the annual Xbox Games Showcase has been locked in for June, where it will highlight both first-party and third-party games coming to the platform. Announcements, reveals, and first looks have been promised from “the biggest franchises to soon-to-be indie darlings.”

The second part of this double feature will be a deep dive look at Gears of War: E-Day, the much-anticipated prequel developed by The Coalition. This latest entry into the bloody third-person shooter series was first unveiled, funnily enough, during the Xbox Games Showcase back in 2024, with a cinematic trailer that undoubtedly made Gears fans very nostalgic. Seeing the original protagonist, Marcus Fenix, brutally fighting a Locust, only to be saved from a fatal fall by fan-favourite character Dom, was enough to get many folks all kinds of hyped for the game.

Last year’s Xbox Games Showcase was a decent offering, with plenty of exciting announcements and a deep dive into The Outer Worlds 2 tacked on to the end. However, the lasting, bitter taste left in many people’s mouths was the closing reveal being handed to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Still, it was a more reserved showcase last year, avoiding the mistakes of the past, where Xbox promised the world and couldn’t deliver, so that’s a plus.
