JB Hi-Fi Is Now Offering Trade-Ins On Xbox Consoles In Exchange For A Gift Card

For those who no longer use their Xbox

Leading technology retailer JB Hi-Fi is now offering customers the opportunity to trade in their Xbox consoles online in exchange for a gift card, in what appears to be a new addition to its trade-in service.

Under the trade-in service, which you can find on JB Hi-Fi’s website, the Xbox Series X|S and all the Xbox One models qualify. The process is all done online via JB’s trade-in partner, so you can do it from home without needing to go into a store. In order to trade in your console you’ll need to be 18 years or over, have a valid Australian photo ID, and a valid Australian credit card. You’ll also need to know your console’s serial number.

The amount your console is worth is based on a handful of questions you’ll need to answer:

  • Does the device turn on?
  • What condition is the console in?
  • Are there any internal defects?
  • Are there any missing items?

For example, an Xbox Series X that powers on, is in good condition with no issues, and includes the original controller will net you $370, while a Series S will score you $110. If you own an Xbox One X, JB will sling you $110, while a base Xbox One (1TB) is worth $20. For comparison, EB Games is offering $430 for an Xbox Series X and $230 for a Series S. Any console that does not turn on will not be accepted, with the webpage recommending its recycling partners for where you can dispose of the console.

Once you complete all the steps, you’ll receive an eGiftCard via email and you’ll need to send the console to a specified address within five days, for which you’ll be supplied a reply paid label.

It’s an interesting move given that JB Hi-Fi hasn’t historically offered trade-ins on gaming hardware and its sister company The Good Guys doesn’t have the same offer available (although it does do trade-ins). Could the Xbox offer be a one-off or will we see the company expand into other consoles?
