Developer Solar Suit Games and publisher Polden Publishing have announced that the horror title Static Dread will release on August 7 for PC.
With an elevator pitch that promises Lovecraft meets Paper, Please, Static Dread is a title that’s been on our radar for a while now. Playing as a newly instated lighthouse keeper, you’re tasked with speaking with the crew of incoming ships, sniffing out their intentions, and guiding them safely to shore…or not. The Lovecraft of it all comes in the form of otherworldy appiritions haunting your space, malevolent voices booming through your radio and creatures being dredged up from the deep by local fishermen.
We recently previewed a slice of Static Dread, coming away with plenty of nice things to say and a painful desire to play more. In our preview, we said, “It’s great getting drawn in by a premise, and it’s even better when that premise is so well realised. Static Dread mixes in some element of Five Nights at Freddy’s with its clear Papers, Please influence, and it’s a combination that works. I’m not sure my blood pressure agrees, but I’m looking forward to the next ten nights at the lighthouse.”
