Mafia: The Old Country’s August 8 Release Date Has Been Outed Via A Steam Post

You were meant to keep that in the family!

It looks like we have a firm release date of August 8, 2025 for Mafia: The Old Country, a new Hangar 13-developed entry in 2K’s mob-based action franchise, even if the announcement has come a little preemptively.

The accidental slip comes via an official Steam post (and discovered by Insider Gaming), which was meant to advertise an upcoming developer panel for the game at PAX East on May 8th – almost a full month from now – either before or during which the release date would presumably be revealed alongside pre-orders opening.

A message mistakenly left in the copy of the post in some non-English regions, which has seemingly since been removed, read:

“Mafia: The Old Country is available August 8, 2025. Pre-order now for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, and stay tuned to the official Mafia website for more information.”

The fourth major entry in the series, Mafia: The Old Country was first revealed at Gamescom 2024 before receiving a bigger and more bombastic trailer at The Game Awards last December with a still-vague Winter 2025 launch window, which you can watch below:

Mafia: The Old Country will be set in Sicily circa the 1900s, and tell a typically-gritty underworld story through a familiar third-person action adventure style, with playable lead Enzo Favara filling in the role of downtrodden labourer riding a series of chance encounters to the potential for a better life with one of the region’s major crime families.

The last major Mafia release was 2020’s remake of the original game, Mafia: Definitive Edition, which I scored a respectable 8.5 at the time, saying, “This from-the-ground-up remake takes a certified classic and makes it even better with a thoughtful modern update that absolutely nails the storytelling and atmosphere of great mafia fiction.”

If you are interested in watching the panel itself, which is poised to deliver an in-depth look at the Mafia series’ history as well as the Unreal Engine 5-powered streets of 1900s Sicily, it’ll be streamed live via the official Mafia YouTube channel as well as the PAX Twitch channel on May 9th at the ripe time of 4AM AEDT.
