HERE WE GO.
Following on from their tease a couple of weeks back, Oddworld Inhabitants have pseudo-unveiled their upcoming sequel to their 2014 remake Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty: Oddworld: Soulstorm. Considering that it’s named after the highly-addictive drink from Abe’s Exoddus, I think it’s safe to say that this is another remake, which is a very happy turn of events. Soulstorm, however, looks to be anything but happy. According to Oddworld Inhabitants co-founder Lorne Lanning, there “was a deeper, darker, and more sinister story that we never got to tell…Soulstorm gives us the opportunity to flesh out more meat on the bones of an original spine, but re-tell the fable from a very different angle.” If this means more of the darker presentation of the original Abe’s Oddysee that was sadly lost in later games, I’m very happy with this reveal.
Unless they’re fucking with us, tongue firmly in cheek.
The reveal’s website also has a neat community collaboration thing going on, with each follow on twitter helping to reveal unstable images of Abe’s “ravaged new self”. There’s also a mailing list you can sign up for, where 100 random addresses will be sent a free code for New ‘n’ Tasty. But, like all good things, there’s a catch: The game is slated for release in “late 2017”. What a buncha schmucks.
