Overwatch 2 Brings Back The Halloween Terror Event

Check your candy for Genjis

Those who have been romping in the new gameplay experience of Overwatch 2 might be ready for a spooky side task, with the first in-game event going live this October 25 – The return of Halloween Terror!

From the Overwatch blog post:

Complete challenges to unlock special rewards like the Nightfall Over Adlersbrunn Name Card, the Jack-o’-Lantern Weapon Charm, Battle Pass XP, and other spine-tingling rewards. Dr. Junkenstein himself will also be making a grand reappearance in the original Junkenstein’s Revenge co-op Brawl, returning for a limited time to Halloween Terror 2022.

Of course there is a trailer to announce the event, take a squiz:

Keen eyed observers have already noticed some critical changes to the long-loved event – namely that the in-game rewards have shifted considerably since the game transitioned to a free to play model.

Players can work through challenges to unlock a range of voice lines, sprays and finally a pumpkin weapon charm – but there will be no free character skins on offer in-game for the event. Oddly enough, you can always CLOSE the game and earn a free Halloween skin by …watching Twitch streamers play the game? I guess?

While many are enjoying the refreshed Overwatch 2 experience, there is a bit of a sour taste to see such a beloved facet of the old game get re-jigged into something a little more ‘freemium’. The in-game store is positively packed to the gills with spooky sale items, most of which err on the heavier side of ‘microtransaction’.

But hey, at least Junkensteins Revenge is back.
