Revealed as part of the Xbox Games Showcase, Blizzard has dropped a chonky trailer that might help re-calibrate the expectations for what PvE content is coming to Overwatch 2.
The huge narrative portion of the trailer deals with the expected storyline of “The Rise of Null Sector”, putting attention on a second massive omnic event and it’s impact on the world:
Voiceover from my main man Reinhardt confirms that this storyline is all coming from the events of the initial Overwatch cinematic, where Winston activated the Overwatch Recall to bring the gang back together. There is new blood on the team, and new threats to deal with – taking place within ‘all new areas not seen in PVP modes’; such as an ‘Omnic Underworld’.
This is a huge bit of news, considering that the previous announcement dealt with a disappointing explanation of how the scope of PvE had dramatically shifted for the Overwatch development team. Many felt that PvE in it’s entirety was gone – but clarification did come to explain that it will still be delivered, just without some of the more bespoke features that had been previously showcased.
It is still exciting to see the story of Overwatch moving forward – particularly in a way where players can experience it.
Overwatch 2’s Invasion content will launch on August 10 across PC, PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
