The sizzle for Overwatch 2’s sixth season is in full swing, and with a rock solid robotic theme comes the sinister steel stylings of shiny skins.
For many games that dwell in the realm of cosmetics, doing a ‘ROBO’ version of a character is fairly rote and expected – in the universe of Overwatch, mechanized beings carry a little more weight to them.
And oh boy, the Invasion content does not disappoint – appearing to turn no less than five characters into an Omnic/Null Sector variant:

The awesome appearance of the Ana Mythic Skin is a great starting point, but it’s not the only mechanized menace clomping a weighty metal foot onto the battlefield.
Both Kiriko and Cassidy get some new digs, which manage to somehow look nothing like Kiriko and Cassidy – yet also look exactly like Kiriko and Cassidy. It’s dark, robotic magic:

Right when I thought I was safe – people have also pointed out that my long suffering Overwatch favourite, Symmetra, has received the robot treatment. And to make it even cooler, it seems to be an Evangelion reference, alongside the rocket-slinging Pharah:

This is dangerous stuff. I am fairly reserved on spending money on Overwatch 2, thankfully loving some older cosmetics that I find difficult to switch off of. But these skins provide a glimpse into a darker Overwatch 2 story – where the good guys are instead unfeeling baddies, a trope that I am deeply obsessed with.
If anyone needs me, I will be dutifully checking Battle Pass info to see how much play is required to get Symmetra bot
