Overwatch 2’s Halloween Event Is Live, With A Delightfully Diabolical PvE Mode

Tame a demonic threat with some friends

Season 7 of Overwatch 2 is now live and cranking, with a swathe of spooktacular content for the October holiday season.

While the season brings a brand new map and some killer new skins, the real standout of the event is the Diablo inspired Trials of Sanctuary game mode in the arcade, which tasks you with stepping into a hellish horde mode where you will get loot and turn your character into a damage monster.

Trials of Sanctuary is a four-player, co-op survival mode set in the Tristram inspired final point of the Blizzard World map. Picking from six Diablo-skinned characters, you will defeat zomnic minions and powerful bosses to gather loot and power ups that change how your familiar hero abilities work – before ultimately facing the mother of sin herself, Lilith Moira.

These power ups are more than just stat boosts though, with cool added effects – for example, my Reinhardt Firestrike would actually leave a trail of burning lava beneath as it travelled. Later I also gained a glaive upgrade that would fire out a damaging wave of energy whenever I was swinging my hammer – basically giving Reinhardt a ranged auto attack. Absolutely cursed.

There are also neat goodies around the map to discover, like treasure chests that harbour stat increases – or a giggling Junkrat Loot Goblin who can be chased down and defeated for further power ups.

It is a seriously silly, and super fun experience that is well worth grabbing some mates to try and push the higher difficulties. Even the nameless ‘Demon’ bosses come stomping into the field with familiar Diablo suffix abilities, like the dreaded frost grenades. Take a break from regular gameplay and get in on the demon stomping fun.
