We will miss you papa Jeff

In a surprising announcement, Jeff Kaplan, the director of Overwatch, has announced he is leaving Blizzard Entertainment after 19 years with the company.

A post on the Blizzard website detailed the news, with Jeff providing his own statement as follows:

i am leaving Blizzard Entertainment after 19 amazing years.

it was truly the honor of a lifetime to have the opportunity to create worlds and heroes for such a passionate audience. i want to express my deep appreciation to everyone at blizzard who supported our games, our game teams and our players. but i want to say a special thanks to the wonderful game developers that shared in the journey of creation with me.

never accept the world as it appears to be. always dare to see it for what it could be. i hope you do the same.

Overwatch 2 is still heavily in development – and leadership on the project will come with the promotion of existing assistant director Aaron Keller, who will now be taking over as the new director on the sequel.

Aaron is an original member of the Overwatch team, and similar to Jeff he serves as an 18-year veteran at Blizzard – putting many at ease that he has all the qualities needed to keep the world of Overwatch intact.
