People Are Somehow Already Playing With Helldivers 2 Mechs And I Am Intensely Jealous

It’s mechanised mayhem

Anyone who played the original Helldivers is likely keenly aware that it came packing a range of gorgeous bipedal weapons platforms. The Exo-44 ‘Stomper’ Exosuit was a goofy little box that would allow a ‘Diver to leap into it’s metallic frame and rain some serious firepower on bugs and cyborgs alike – complete with strategem launching tube and freedom-scented interior.

So folks looking at Helldivers 2 initially replicated the orangutan meme – Where mechs?

The Arrowhead crew were pretty transparent in pointing out that Mechs would come – quite soon after launch in fact – and even teased them in some of their marketing materials.

But somehow, people seem to have unearthed them ahead of time, and are having all their mech-ish fun without me.

It’s no secret that there are some unreleased strategems and goodies within the game – there has even been a small spate of hackers making use of strategems that are not yet intended for use. The videos above seem to lean into these discovery methods, with the first gameplay video perhaps being modders having a field day and the second video looking like the tutorial/explanation item for the Mech call-in.

While not immediately harmful to the game, it is still a case of players getting a little too cosy with what they can wring out of the game. How Arrowhead will approach this is unknown, but speculation suggests that now that the server capacity woes are wrapping up, we can likely expect these new toys to be formally announced and rolled out to all democratic Helldivers in waiting.

And oh boy, am I excited to get my very own deadly tin can.
