The latest PS5 system software update, version 7.0, is now live, bringing with it Discord voice chat, 1440p support and a list of quality-of-life improvements.
As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, software update 7.0 is now available to all PS5 users, bringing the long-awaited Discord voice chat support. Similar to the Xbox integration, PS5 users will first be required to link their Discord and PSN accounts before joining a chat through the mobile app and then transferring the voice chat to their console. The other major change made by update 7.0 is the introduction of Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p displays. Those using an HDMI 2.1 display at a 1440p resolution will now have the option to enable VRR and enjoy smoother visuals.
Update 7.0 also brought with it a range of quality-of-life changes and additions:
- The ability to start/request a Share Screen while viewing a friend’s profile.
- A new join game icon is present in party chats that allow players to jump into their friend’s games easier.
- A new Friend’s Who Play tile that details if your friends own the game, if they’re online and what they’re playing.
- You can now manually upload game captures from the PS5 to the PlayStation App.
- Added filter options for gamelists.
- PSVR and PSVR2 filters have been added to the game library.
- New multiplayer preset options allow you to choose who can join sessions on a game-by-game basis.
- Enhanced PS4-to-PS5 save migration, making it easier to access your PS4 saves on a PS5 version of the game.
- PS5-to-PS5 data transfer options to easily migrate data from one console to another.
- Wireless DualSense controller updating.
- Enhanced screen reader options, providing improved guidance through the console.
- Improved voice command support.
