Reigns: The Witcher Is A Swipe-’Em-Up Spin-Off All About Choices And Consequence

Toss a coin, swipe a card

Devolver Digital and CD Projekt Red have announced Reigns: The Witcher, a choice-based narrative set for release on PC and mobile on February 25th.

Developed by UK-based studio Nerial, Reign is a series of decision-making games with branching narratives and difficult choices. Players are presented with a series of choices, decided upon by swiping left or right, with each decision leading to a different outcome and another set of often difficult choices. With Reigns: The Witcher, players embody The White Wolf Geralt as he goes about his monster-slaying duties, interacting with beasts, townsfolk, and familiar faces from the CD Projekt Red games. However, this tale isn’t strictly true, as it’s being told by the ever-honest bard, Dandelion.

We’ve been playing a preview build of Reigns: The Witcher for the past week, and it offers a unique gameplay experience that’s easy to understand and very entertaining. Stumbling upon a dragon, you can choose to draw your sword and attempt to slay it, or stay your hand and chat. Choosing diplomacy felt like the right option, but that quickly escalated to Yennifer joining the fray, words being misconstrued, and Geralt meeting a fiery fate.

Gerlat’s jaunt across The Continent will span 15-25 hours, but that time is likely to fly by, as the choices come at your thick and fast, and making your move is as simple as it gets: swipe left or swipe right. Combat minigames will pop up, letting Geralt take his silver sword for a swing, but these moments are equally as simple and easy to understand, often asking the player to move from left to right to avoid attacks and feed silver to your foe.
