In a move that should hardly surprise anyone, Rockstar has officially delayed Grand Theft Auto VI to May 26, 2026.
Since the teaser trailer dropped over a year ago, many have been anticipating a release date announcement for late 2025, perhaps even sooner. Unfortunately, Rockstar has taken to their social media channels to confirm that more time is needed to polish the highly anticipated title.

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the delay could stem from those within the company believing a 2025 release to be unlikely given the scope of the project, and potentially a move by Rockstar to avoid some serious crunch for its team to get the job done.
The confirmation of a release date is still something to work with, considering there’s been little to nothing regarding the next GTA since that first trailer drop. Whether Rockstar decides to deliver anything else in the year we have to wait before release remains to be seen.
Of course, this isn’t the first project they’ve delayed either. Red Dead Redemption 2 was pushed back a handful of times as was Grand Theft Auto V, such is the extensive nature of their design, or perhaps a symptom of trying to cram too much in (shrinking horse balls, anyone?).
