Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Team Lazerbeam have revealed Shroom and Gloom, a roguelike deckbuilder coming to PC.
Coming from the studio behind dating sim Wrestling with Emotions, Shroom and Gloom is a first-person deckbuilder with a twist. Rather than the usual single deck, players are tasked with building out two separate decks, one for exploration and another for combat. Exploring hand-drawn dungeons, players take their combat deck and battle against a range of fungal enemies that can then be cooked and consumed to restore health and gain buffs.
Unlocking new cards on each run, there will be an option to upgrade basic cards for them to become more powerful or do the same with rare cards to effectively break the game. The full game will feature 26 handcrafted tunnels and various bosses to explore and destroy (in that order).

Shroom and Gloom is set for a Steam early access release later this year, but there’s great news for those who like what they see. A demo is available right now on Steam, and we had some time with it before this announcement. The double-deck mechanic adds strategic depth to each run, while the variety in cards keeps things feeling fresh. Easily the biggest callout is the fantastic hand-drawn aesthetic aided by the first-person perspective, making every asset look like a cardboard cutout.
