SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated Is Getting A Brand-New Multiplayer Mode

As if a full-blown visual redo of classic 3D platformer SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom wasn’t exciting enough to look forward to this month, publisher THQ Nordic has just announced that on top of all of the existing content the new Rehydrated version of the game also includes a brand-new multiplayer horde mode.

The new mode actually looks significantly different from the main mode’s gameplay, played from a top-down perspective that sees players pick from seven SpongeBob characters with their own unique abilities and fight hordes of Robo-Squidward’s minions across 26 Islands. The mode supports two players across couch co-op and online multiplayer, and there’s a trailer to feast your eyes on below:

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated releases June 23, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Kieron started gaming on the SEGA Master System, with Sonic the Hedgehog, Alex Kidd and Wonder Boy. The 20-odd years of his life since have not seen his love for platformers falter even slightly. A separate love affair, this time with JRPGs, developed soon after being introduced to Final Fantasy VIII (ie, the best in the series). Further romantic subplots soon blossomed with quirky Japanese games, the occasional flashy AAA action adventure, and an unhealthy number of indie gems. To say that Kieron lies at the center of a tangled, labyrinthine web of sexy video game love would be an understatement.
