In a communication to Eurogamer, Rocksteady staff have been hit with redundancies following the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
The most impacted section of the business is the QA department, reporting that the team has had its numbers slashed from 33 members to just 15 – with the reason for the change cited as “restructuring”. Eurogamer also report that the further job losses extend outside of QA, with one staff member even sharing to social media that they were made redundant while on paternity leave.

The figures for Warner Bros. gaming were not good ones, with a pretty blunt reveal that over $200 million USD was lost on the game – so cost cutting measures were inevitable. The cruel irony is that with the loss targeting roles in the QA department, the overall quality of future projects will now be put in jeopardy – with Rocksteady’s senior management even acknowledging this to be a quantifiable risk.
With approximately 50,000 copies sold during the initial release period on Steam, the Suicide Squad did not look to be escaping their neck bombs any time soon – further compounded by the early giveaway of the game via Prime Gaming. Curiously, there are still reports that Rocksteady does have a new title in the works, so the studio may yet be safe from being overtly shut down.
But for now, it is still yet another case of people losing their jobs – and it sucks no matter how you slice it.
