Rocksteady Studios has announced that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s current post-launch season will be its last.
Following a widely lauded Batman: Arkham trilogy with an online co-op live service shooter is a bold move, but if anyone could pull it off, it would be Rocksteady. They couldn’t pull it off.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was released in February to a raft of tepid reviews (we gave it a 4) and a general sense of befuddlement that this is where the Arkham series has ended up. Regardless, this live service train would keep moving down the tracks, with four seasonal content drops teased alongside an “and more” tag plastered on the game’s post-launch roadmap. These seasons would progressively introduce, among other things, four new playable characters, including The Joker, Mrs Freeze, Lawless, and, most recently, Deathstroke.
While that initial roadmap included that “and more” tease, Rocksteady has confirmed that season four will be the game’s last. This was confirmed in a community update on the game’s website, saying, “With Deathstroke joining the roster, the Suicide Squad’s crusade against Brainiac is drawing to an end. Season 4 will finish up with Episode 8, which is scheduled to release in January 2025, and that will serve as the last seasonal Episode for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.”
Don’t stress, the in-game store remains open, so you can still buy skins and other cosmetics if you’re insane that way inclined. Better still, a “feature” is being added that should have been available from day one: an offline mode. With the latest update that went live yesterday, players can now create a new profile or copy their existing profile and play the entire game without needing an internet connection.
The game was recently on sale on Steam for less than $6, and I had a headline reading, “Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Is Currently $6 on Steam, So Go Buy A Coffee Instead”, typed out, but I didn’t want to throw out unnecessary negativity into the world, but at least I can share it here.
