As a lover of old-school point and click adventure games, Syberia is one of my favourites of the genre, and although 2017’s Syberia 3 was a disappointment (I scored it a 5 in my review), I was still hopeful of seeing more entries in the series.
While murmurs of a new Syberia have been doing the rounds for a while now, today’s announcement of Syberia: The World Before isn’t overly surprising – but it is damn welcoming. What is most surprising though is that the game’s prologue is available on Steam (for free) now.
Syberia: The World Before is spread across two timelines: 1937, where players will play as 17-year-old Dana Roze, and 2004, where players control series mainstay Kate Walker. Both characters will need to uncover the truth behind mysteries that have remained buried for many years. The World Before promises to be another gorgeous world crafted by series mastermind Benoît Sokal and bringing his world to life is returning composer Inon Zur. It’s been given a 2021 release window and currently has only been announced for PC. You can check out the game’s debut trailer below:
Despite a childhood playing survival horrors, point and clicks and beat ’em ups, these days Zach tries to convince people that Homefront: The Revolution is a good game while pining for a sequel to The Order: 1886 and a live-action Treasure Planet film.
