The Assassin’s Creed Roadmap Reveals Four New Games, Codename Infinity And A Netflix Partnership

There’s a lot of AC on the horizon

During this morning’s Ubisoft Forward Livestream, several announcements were made relating to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, including four brand new titles, a partnership with Netflix and details on the mysterious Codename INFINITY game hub.

After an extensive full reveal of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the Assassin’s Creed Showcase zoomed out to look at the release roadmap for the series going forward. The two biggest ticket items are the next two mainline instalments in the series, revealed as Assassin’s Creed Codename RED and Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE.

The next major game in the series following Mirage, Codename RED will finally give players what they’ve been wanting for many years, an Assassin’s Creed game set in feudal Japan. Developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the team behind Odyssey, Codename RED will be an open-world RPG set in the long-awaited Land of the Rising Sun. Being referred to as an RPG, it sounds like RED will steer the series back towards the likes of Odyssey and Valhalla after the back-to-basics change that will be Mirage.

Looking further into the future, we then got a tease for the flagship game that will follow RED, titled Codename HEXE. Little was revealed about HEXE, but the dark and ominous teaser trailer suggests that the game will deal with the occult, with the recognisable Assassin’s Creed logo depicted as being a wooden glyph that gives off some heavy witchcraft vibes. Other than the fact Ubisoft Montreal is developing it, we know absolutely nothing about this one, but I’d love to see HEXE tackle the Salem witch trials during the 1600s.

Announced back in July 2021, we finally got to hear more about Assasin’s Creed Codename INFINITY. Initially thought to be a live-service game, INFINITY will be a hub where players can access various AC games and experiences. Taking the form of an Animus, players will be able to launch into Codename RED and Codename HEXE, but a standalone multiplayer game was also mentioned to be a part of the INFINITY hub, though no specific details were given.

Moving away from the mainline series, we also got the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Codename JADE, a AAA RPG releasing on mobile. A free-to-play experience, JADE will be set in Ancient China in 215 BCE and will allow players to create their own assassins. The brief trailer shows an eagle flying over the iconic Great Wall as an Assassin performs a very familiar leap of faith. It was also confirmed that the game will feature recognisable gameplay mechanics such as parkour, stealth and melee combat.

Lastly, we got an update on Ubisoft’s partnership with Netflix to co-develop Assassin’s Creed content. The live-action series that’s currently in production was announced all the way back in October 2020, but we also got the announcement that a mobile game is currently in development for the Netflix platform.
