The Day Before Developer Confirms That The Game Will Mainly Focus On “Player-Versus-Player Engagements”

The zombies might take a backseat

Developer Fntastic has revealed that the upcoming open-world survival MMO The Day Before will primarily be focused on PvP gameplay.

During our recent exclusive interview with Fntastic founders Eduard and Aisen Gotovtsev, the pair revealed that the highly-discussed game will be centred around play-versus-player interactions. Describing The Day Before as an “open-world, post-apocalyptic sandbox,” Eduard and Aisen explain that “While our game predominantly leans towards player-versus-player engagements, we will also incorporate quests centred around the restoration of society. In The Day Before, the fate of humanity truly rests in your hands.”

While player-versus-player combat was implied during the 2021 gameplay trailer, the only PvP-type gameplay we’ve seen came in the form of the game’s reveal trailer from the same year. We do see two players working cooperatively in the 2021 gameplay trailer, making their way through a petrol station and a farmhouse, so this may play into the “restoration of society” somewhat.

Crucially, the marketing for the game up until this point has been heavily focused on the undead enemies that plague the map, but it’s sounding like zombies aren’t going to be as pivotal to the experience as we first thought. When we asked about what kind of enemy variety we can expect, Eduard and Aisen stated that “various types of infected” will be present in the game, but also immediately followed up by saying that “it’s essential to note that the core focus of the game isn’t solely on zombies. Instead, the heart of our game lies within the interactions and experiences of the players themselves as they navigate and inhabit this post-apocalyptic world.”

When combined, these two statements paint a very PvP-focused picture, which may surprise some keen onlookers. Seeing as though The Day Before was the most wishlisted game on Steam prior to Fntastic’s trademark dispute over the name of the title, there are many eager eyes are on the project.
