The Day Before Gets A Short Delay; Now Launching In Early Access In December

Death, taxes, and The Day Before getting delayed

In news that won’t come as a shock to most people, Fntastic has once more delayed The Day Before, announcing a minor date change to December 8 (December 7 global) alongside a new trailer and the game’s move to an Early Access release.

Posting on social media, Fntastic revealed that the Intellectual Property Tribunal had ruled in its favour in the trademark dispute over The Day Before name, allowing the game to return to Steam and to the top of the Wishlists. On the trademark win, Fntastic said that “We dedicate this victory to all our future players, and it’s all for them. For five years we have been doing our best to give people this dream game.”

Fntastic explained that the game’s move to Early Access was due to The Day Before being the studio’s “first huge game” and that the full release “will happen when we are certain this is the best version of the game possible,” citing how valuable player feedback will be to achieving that.

In Early Access, The Day Before will be priced at US$39 (roughly $A60) and will increase to US$49 (roughly A$76) when it fully releases. The full release will also see the game hit PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

It was also confirmed to IGN that the previously announced beta will only be for the game’s Volunteers.

The new trailer gave us our best look at the gameplay yet, showing off the character creator, some weapons and combat, the survival mechanics, as well the game’s base building and driving mechanics.

It’s looks like a far cry from the eye-catching announcement trailer we got in 2021, but it should help set expectations for when the game does launch in December.

The Day Before has had its fair share of issues during its development, including multiple delays, the trademark dispute and its removal from Steam, downgrades from the initial trailers, and questions around the project’s validity. But it looks like we’re finally about to get some answers.
