Ambitious solo-developed open-world psychological horror RPG The Pines has dropped its second trailer during the Future Games Show Summer Showcase, showing off more of its picturesque yet unsettling world.
The Pines follows Edward Walker, a former detective who has sought solace at a remote forest retreat that promises therapy, peace and recovery. But while the brochure makes it sound like a relaxing escape, the truth is much darker. Edward will need to learn about the patients and their stories, uncover the retreat’s secrets, and face his past using his investigative skills.
Developer Studio Abattoir is promising a richly detailed and lovingly handcrafted open world ripe for exploration, choice-driven dialogue with branching narratives, a customisable skill and perk system, and a Stalker System, which may see once harmless residents hunt you down if you say the wrong thing.
For a debut and solo-developed title, The Pines is looking mighty impressive, and it’s one that I am very excited about and will definitely be keeping on my radar as development continues.
The Pines is scheduled to release on PC in 2027. You can Wishlist the game on Steam.
