CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the recently announced The Witcher Remake will be an open-world experience.
Announced during the CD Projekt Red Q3 financial earnings report, The Witcher Remake, referred to as Codename: Canis Majoris, was described as a “Story-driven, single-player open-world RPG – a modern reimagining of 2007’s The Witcher.”
This may not sound newsworthy to those who haven’t played the original, but those who have will know that it wasn’t an open-world title. While the original did feature several open environments to explore, the linear narrative prevents backtracking and limits the player to the current location. This change will seemingly bring The Witcher Remake to be more in line with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Outside of the fact that it’ll run on Unreal Engine 5 and be developed from the ground up, little more is known about The Witcher Remake at this stage, so we’ll need to be patient. The release of the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been announced for December 14 if you’re after a Witcher fix.
