Tokyo Game Show Brings Us A Huge Dragon’s Dogma 2 Gameplay Trailer

Bulging with classes, world locations, quests, and more

A chonky demonstration of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is live on YouTube, with a deep dive on what to expect from the game and it’s classes being delivered by Game Director Hideaki Itsuno.

Clocking in at close to nine minutes, it’s a pretty tasty entrée for any action-RPG enthusiast:

The main focus of the deep dive revolves around the different vocation options – classes, essentially – and how they play within the game. Your classic fantasy tropes are all present and accounted for, including:

  • Fighter: Uses a sword and shield, ‘Nuff said
  • Archer: Let’s you play the game like a third person shooter
  • Mage: A super cool spellcaster that can drop devastating spells, but the bigger the spell the longer the cast time
  • Thief: Sneaky bugger that can actually cling to large monsters while attacking them

Beyond these standard classes there are also more involved class types, with examples like the Mystic Spearhand and Magick Archer – advanced and remixed versions of standard vocations.

We also get to look at the awesome world on offer, the rugged nation of Batthal. The terrain is rich, varied and chock full of terrifying stuff to fight. We get to see a pretty wicked  fight against a troll-dude, with the player character utilising environmental options such as exploding a dam to sweep it away with water – so keep your eyes peeled for convenient traps and hazards.

Good thing you don’t need to be alone on your journey – you get AI companions, designated as “Pawns” in the game – and they will go about their business in battle to assist you.

As someone who missed the boat on the original Dragon’s Dogma, I can see why people remember it so fondly. It definitely looks like a gem that took people by surprise – so it is super cool to see such a girthy sequel coming our way.

Are you excited to explore Batthal? What vocation has you all aflutter? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
