Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks, the chaotic orky free-to-play multiplayer combat racer is done with beta periods – and is now speeding towards Early Access on August 7.

After a few test weekends to get a feeling for this death rally of big explosions and twisted metal, the green tide is ready to gear up and drop the first season of content. Currently the seasonal content plan doesn’t seem to be shared in any super specific way, but players who dipped into the prior test period did notice that there did appear to be a free progression system reminiscent of a battle pass, so perhaps a paid-for offering will be nestled in the title somewhere.
The Early Access period will also allow players to choose from the two established modes that have gone through test periods, which are:
In Deff Rally, 16 players race to capture points and fight to control them in succession before a sprint to the finish. Kill Konvoy features teams racing alongside formidable Stompas, battling and bombing their enemy to help ensure their Stompa reaches the finish line first.
Being Early Access, I can assume that the developers are still hard at work fleshing out the full breadth of content – given that there are only two game modes, they might wear thin over an extended lifetime. The sky is the limit with crazy cars and giant explosions – particularly when you factor in the intensely crazy nature of Warhammer 40k’s craziest faction, the Orks.
In an FAQ on the Speed Freeks Steam page, developer Caged Element also mention that they still intend for a full release of the game before the end of the year, so fears of some endless Early Access period can be put to bed.
So if you are primed to get your pistons firing and commit some vehicular violence, keep August 7 free on your calendar.
