Publisher Prismatika and developer Team Lazerbeam have revealed new details about their upcoming dating sim, Wrestling With Emotions: New Kid on the Block.
Coming in the form of an RRV (Radical Reveal Video), we’re given an in-depth look at the game’s unique mix of squared circle street fights and heart-warming hugging. The eight-minute breakdown covers three primary aspects of Wrestling With Emotions: M.E.A.T, dateable dreamboats and character creation. You’ll likely be lost so far, but embrace it; this is a bizarre game with boatloads of charm.
Firstly, it’s worth knowing that New Kid on the Block is a followup to the original Wrestling With Emotions, a bite-sized dating sim that had you find your true love amongst musclebound brutes. The sequel expands on its predecessor, adding various new mechanics and a more fleshed-out story. As the newest member of the Wrestling With Emotions roster, your created character will mix it up and form a romance with one of seven bone benders: Outburst, Radical Ray, Irresistible Steve, King Pretty Guy, Matsuri, Arms and Freakshow.
In order to build relationships and beat opponents, you’ll need to use your four M.E.A.T stats: muscle, elegance, attitude and theatrics. By training and building these stats, you’ll be able to participate in matches and interact with your dateable dreamboats, taking them on dates and swooning over their rippling physiques. When you’re not throwing clotheslines or throwing out pickup lines, you’ll be able to up these stats by training at various spots around the city, such as Drama Queens (theatrics), Thrashers (attitude), Hot Shop (elegance) and Mrs Muscles (muscles).
Set in the 90s, New Kid on the Block features many time-appropriate nods to the wrestling scene at the time. Characters such as Gorilla Baboon and Major Malfunction are winks and nudges at commentator Gorilla Monsoon and wrestler Sergeant Slaughter. There are plenty of other nods made during the trailer, and there are likely to be many more in the full game.
