Xbox Game Pass Core Is A New Subscription Service Tier That Will Replace Xbox Live Gold

The end of an era

Microsoft has announced that Xbox Live Gold will be coming to an end on September 14, to be replaced by Xbox Game Pass Core.

As detailed on Xbox Wire, the long-running Xbox Live Gold service is being shut down in favour of a new Xbox Game Pass tier. Xbox Game Pass Core is designed to be an entry-level tier that allows subscribers to play games online and grants access to exclusive deals while also granting access to a curated collection of more than 25 games, giving users a sample of what’s on offer with the full-fat Game Pass variety.

An Xbox Game Pass Core membership will set you back $10.95 a month or $79.95 annually, making it the most affordable option the service has to offer.

Xbox has announced 19 games that will be included in the launch line-up, with new titles to be added twice or three times per year. The announced games coming to Xbox Game Pass Core are:

  • Among Us
  • Descenders
  • Dishonored 2
  • Doom Eternal
  • Fable Anniversary
  • Fallout 4
  • Fallout 76
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Gears 5
  • Grounded
  • Halo 5: Guardians
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • Human Fall Flat
  • Inside
  • Ori & The Will of the Wisps
  • Psychonauts 2
  • State of Decay 2
  • The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

Those who are currently subscribed to Xbox Live Gold will be offered a discounted upgrade to Game Pass Core and will retain access to any of the Games With Gold titles they have previously redeemed.
